California's Wine Country

Whether you are a newcomer to California premium wines, a tried and true connoisseur, or perhaps simply a lover of beautiful scenery, I can create a tour of the wine country oriented to your own particular tastes, interests and desires. Narration will include entertaining stories packed with a lot of information about the history of the California Wine Industry, the multitude of wine growing regions here and

where the best grapes come from, climatic and soil conditions, how to read a wine label, and the tasting a judging of wine. I have created over a dozen wine tours that go through as many growing regions, and there are virtually endless possibilities of wineries that I can arrange for your visit (250 in Napa alone). May I first suggest a tour of both Napa and Sonoma, exploring the best of California's wineries, as well as some of its most enchanting scenery.

When I recommend wineries for a tour, it is usually based on several criteria. First of all, they must have a premium quality product and a nice facility. But even more important: are the people at the wineries going to treat you as very special guests?

Enoteca at Viansa: Michael pouring some of Sam Sebastiani's finest wines in his private wine library for Quality Tours guests.

I have an intimate knowledge of many smaller "boutique" wineries that produce the finest premium wines (many not

found outside the state . . . for good reason). Also, I have special arrangements at those I most often recommend, such as tasting in the wine makers' private wine libraries and access to wineries that are closed to the general public. Some of the many wineries we can visit include: Viansa Winery and Italian Marketplace (owned by Sam and Vicki Sebastiani), Kunde Estate, Opus One, Robert Mondavi, Acacia, Cakebread and Niebaum-Coppola.

If you prefer to get off-the-beaten-path to more romantic, exclusive and non-commercial wineries (of which you have probably never heard), then we could explore the country roads of Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys; or even take an excursion into the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Whether you would like to take one of my varietal tours (such as the "In search of the

Quality Tours group visiting Viansa with Jonathan Sebastiani on right

perfect Red Zinfandel"), or my "Something for everyone tour" (still wine, sparkling wine, distilled brandy and beer) or want to custom design it yourself, I always recommend a gourmet picnic lunch with panoramic views (weather permitting). Otherwise, the world renowned cuisine of the area may be sampled at any of the many fine local restaurants.

Short tour: 6 hours. All day tour with lunch: 8-9 hours. Overnights available. Advanced planning is important to ensure availability at wineries and restaurants.
